An makgi (안막기), known in English as inward block, is in Kukkiwon terminology a block directed from outside to inside the defender's body; an means inward, makgi block. Kukkiwon identifies the basic version, done with the outer wrist edge (bakkatpalmok), with momtong makgi, the trunk block. The same direction is also blocked with the edge of the hand, the palm heel, or the inner edge of the foot; these have the blocking surface in their name (for example batangson an makgi). Taekwondo Compendium lists it as momtong an makgi across the Taegeuk poomsae series. Phoenix Taekwondo's photo breakdowns show it in ap seogi stance (Il Jang, Ee Jang, Sam Jang, Sah Jang), ap kubi (Sah Jang, Oh Jang, Pal Jang), dwit kubi (Sah Jang), and beom seogi (Chil Jang); we did not find it in Taegeuk Yook Jang. For Sah Jang, the Compendium notes that the blocking arm's wrist should finish on the body's centerline.
