Vincentio Saviolo his Practise (1595) was the first major manual of Italian rapier fencing published in English. Saviolo was a fencing master in London during the reign of Elizabeth I. His work teaches in detail the use of rapier, dagger in the other hand, and the tactics of body-diverging without crossing the legs.
