L'Ecole des armes (Domenico Angelo, 1763)

Domenico Angelo Malevolti Tremamondo, an Italian fencer settled in London, published the influential treatise L'École des Armes in 1763. His smallsword system emphasized elegance of stance, footwork, and precise point control rather than raw striking power. The school he founded at Carlisle House became the leading fencing academy for British aristocracy for over a century, run by his descendants across three generations. Angelo's principles of stance and distance also shaped later sport fencing.
