Biography

Mike (Michael) Inay was born in 1944 and died in 2000 while teaching Inayan Eskrima. He is known as the creator of the Filipino combat system Inayan System of Eskrima (ISE). We have not been able to verify his birthplace in the sources.

He studied privately under leading eskrima masters Max Sarmiento and Angel Cabales. He suggested to Angel Cabales that he found an organization to preserve the Cabales Serrada style.

Inayan Eskrima comprises seven separate styles, each with its own techniques, and Inay created a ranked grading system for it. In 1979 he co-founded, with Max Sarmiento as first chairman, the West Coast Eskrima Society, formally established in Los Gatos, California. The association brought together masters Max Sarmiento, Jimmy Tacosa, Jeffrey Elliott, Sam Tendencia, Leo Giron, Dan Inosanto and Richard Bustillo.

He taught eskrima to law enforcement officers throughout the United States and created the Spontaneous Knife Defense program for police. He led international seminars in England, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Canada and Australia.
