Biography

Marc Denny is an American instructor, founder of the Dog Brothers Martial Arts system and one of the organizers of the gathering where the Dog Brothers were born in May 1988. We have not been able to verify the date and place of his birth in the sources.

In 1981 he began training Tiger Claw Kung Fu in New York under sifu Paul Vizzio, and later taekwondo in Washington, D.C. After moving to California he encountered Filipino kali through the Inosanto Academy circle, training it under Guro Dan Inosanto and Paul Vunak, and later also the lameco and pekiti tirsia systems. His training partners Bill Gaye and Chris Markus introduced him to full-contact stick fighting, and through them he connected with Erik Knauss, the later "Top Dog".

Informal after-hours training sessions at the Inosanto Academy in the "After Midnight" group laid the foundation of the Dog Brothers methodology. The three-day gathering in San Clemente, California, in May 1988 was organized with Erik Knauss, Arlan Sanford, Philip Gelinas and others; participants averaged twenty matches over the weekend, and the event became the first "Gathering of the Pack". In 1990, roughly three years before the founding of the UFC, he introduced Brazilian jiu-jitsu into Dog Brothers training and connected Guro Inosanto with the Machado brothers.
