Biography

Gordon Liu was born on 22 August 1951 in Foshan, Guangdong province, China, as Sin Kam-hei. He is a kung fu film actor and a practitioner of the Hung Gar style.

Between the ages of fifteen and twenty he trained in Hung Gar at Lau Cham's school; he kept the training secret from his parents and skipped school because of it. He is Lau Cham's godson, not his adopted son, as is often claimed. He took the professional surname Liu out of respect for Lau Cham and his wife; he is not the adoptive brother of Lau Kar-leung or Lau Kar-wing.

In 1976 he played Wong Fei-hung in Challenge of the Masters, and in 1977 he appeared in Executioners from Shaolin. He played his best-known role, the monk San Te, in 1978 in The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. In 2003 and 2004 he played Johnny Mo and Pai Mei in Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Volume 2. In 2020 he was inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum's hall of fame.

In August 2011 he suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed and affected his speech. As of 2015 he was still using a wheelchair, but his speech had returned.
