Quick Facts
ItalyBiography
Giuseppe Morsicato Pallavicini was an Italian fencing master of the 17th century associated with Naples. We have not been able to verify the dates of his birth and death, and sources say little about his life. In 1670 he stated that he had practised fencing for 22 years, so he began around 1648.
He belonged to the Neapolitan fencing school led by the Marcelli family. A source names Matteo Galici and Giovanni Mattei among those who influenced him.
In 1670 he published the book La Scherma illustrata and in 1673 its sequel, La seconda parte della scherma illustrata. His work was translated into English by Christopher Holzman (2018 and 2020).
