Giovanni dall'Agocchie was a citizen of Bologna and the author of the fencing treatise Dell'Arte di Scrima Libri Tre (Three Books on the Art of Fencing), published in 1572 in Venice by the printer Giulio Tamborino. We have not been able to verify further biographical details, including his birth and death dates.
The treatise takes the form of a dialogue between dall'Agocchie and Lepido Ranieri, a young man from Brescia. The first book, divided into five days of dialogue, deals with fencing with the side-sword. The second book is devoted to the art of the tournament joust and the third to battle formations.
He dedicated the work to Fabio Pepoli, Count of Castiglione; the sources do not clarify their relationship. A revised English translation of the treatise was published in 2018 by Jherek Swanger.
