Biography

Chan Busho is a legendary figure whom part of the tradition links to the origins of the Japanese school Koto-ryu koppojutsu. The English Wikipedia says the school's exact origin is unknown; it names Sakagami Taro Kunishige as founder, or alternatively Toda Sakyo Isshinsai, who organized it in the 16th century, and Chan Busho is not mentioned there.

His name appears in a lineage account Pedro Fleitas published on his blog about the Bujinkan. He links Chan Busho to the transmission of the teaching through Korea, with the lineage reaching Sakagami Taro only generations later. The author states explicitly that this is only an interpretation of history, not certain fact. We have not been able to verify the dates of his birth or death.
