This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.

Mok Gar is one of the five major Southern Chinese Hakka family styles founded in the 18th century. The Duanwei rank system (1st to 5th Duan) evaluates low stable stances, devastating close-range kicks, short-range hand strikes, and traditional Mok Gar Kuen forms.

1st Duan – Green Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 6 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Compact combat stances, rapid steps, and direct fist strikes without wide windups.

Symbolism & Meaning

Practical and direct Southern Chinese family style born for close-quarters self-defense.

2nd Duan – Blue Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 12 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Famous rapid kicks (Gua Ding Gerk), hidden footwork, and basic Mok Gar forms.

Symbolism & Meaning

Style famous for specializing in unexpected, very strong kicks and takedowns.

3rd Duan – Silver Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 18 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Lightning blocking and simultaneous striking in one tempo. Utilizing hip power.

Symbolism & Meaning

Efficiency and minimalism – the Mok family motto.

4th Duan – Black Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 24 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Combat with butterfly swords, long staff, and uncompromising free sparring.

Symbolism & Meaning

Comprehensive protection without retreat using weapons.

5th Duan – Gold Level (Sifu)

Typical gap since previous grade: 36 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Awarding of Sifu title. Running a school, passing on deep family tactics.

Symbolism & Meaning

Sifu = Guardian and representative of the historical Mok family legacy.
