Throw Down
2004 · Director: Johnnie To · HK
What it is about
A former judoka who has drunk his way to the bottom gets a chance to return to the mat.
The fighting in it
Johnnie To made the film as a tribute to Kurosawa's Sanshiro Sugata. The throws are real competitive judo — the entries, transitions and grip fighting match how a match actually runs; the scenes were shot with judoka, not stunt performers.
Martial arts in the film
The film details have not yet been checked against a primary source.
