Harakiri
1962 · Director: Masaki Kobayashi · JP
What it is about
An impoverished rōnin asks to perform seppuku in a clan's courtyard and gradually reveals why he came.
The fighting in it
The sharpest screen critique of the samurai code ever made. The duel in the grass field is shot without music and at real distance — the viewer sees how long it takes to close sword range, something most of the genre shortens.
Martial arts in the film
The film details have not yet been checked against a primary source.
