General overview of grades

This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.

Ki Aikido (Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido), founded by Koichi Tohei in 1971, pairs traditional Kyu/Dan ranks with a parallel Ki grading system (Shokyu to Shin-Kyoshi). The hierarchy evaluates mind-body coordination, Ki testing, relaxed effortless throws, and Jo staff and Bokken sword forms.
