This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.
10th Kyu – White Belt
Basics of traditional stances and modern combat guard (Kamae).
A new beginning with a mind pure as a blank canvas, ready to absorb dojo discipline.
9th Kyu – White Belt (Orange Stripe)
Proper biomechanics of movement and hip rotation in striking.
Foreshadowing the energy and commitment that comes with the orange color.
8th Kyu – Orange Belt
Stability and understanding weight transfer. Introduction of roundhouse kicks.
Orange is the fire born within the warrior. Awakening determination.
7th Kyu – Orange Belt (Blue Stripe)
First sparring exercises and working with real distance (Maai).
The flame begins to absorb the water. The fire of emotions must be controlled by discipline.
6th Kyu – Blue Belt
Combinations of punches and kicks in motion. Increasing pad work intensity.
Color of the ocean. Mind becomes more fluid and able to absorb harder hits.
5th Kyu – Blue Belt (Yellow Stripe)
Basics of full-contact free sparring and counter-timing.
Dawn over the water, approaching full combat alertness.
4th Kyu – Yellow Belt
Preparatory conditioning. High kicks and fighting faster opponents.
Golden middle. Shining confidence, the fire and sun of the warrior at full strength.
3rd Kyu – Green Belt
Head movement, smooth takedowns, and defense against boxing combinations.
A developed tree with deep roots. Learning to absorb the wind (pressure).
2nd Kyu – Brown Belt
Hard test of isometric stamina. Full-contact sparring in K-1 style.
Earth and stability. The practitioner maintains balance even under hard external pressure.
1st Kyu – Brown Belt (Black Stripe)
Final preparatory phase for the master rank. Tameshiwari (breaking boards).
Shadow falls on the ground, heralding the birth of a master mind in dark robes.
1st Dan – Black Belt (Senpai)
10-man kumite test (full-contact fights against fresh opponents).
Absolute beginning of mastery. Seidokaikan uses gold stripes on black belts for Dan ranks.
2nd Dan – Black Belt (Senpai)
20-man kumite test. Ring combat circular tactics.
Two gold stripes signify unshakable body control in combat.
3rd Dan – Black Belt (Sensei)
Awarding of Teacher title (Sensei). Endurance test (30-man kumite).
3 gold stripes. Leading Dojo and Seidokaikan training centers.
4th Dan – Black Belt (Sensei)
International Branch Chief.
4 stripes. Technical wisdom and international examiner.
5th Dan – Black Belt (Shihan)
Earning the prestigious Shihan title. 50-man kumite test.
Pillar of the organization, body and mind forged to perfection by full-contact combat.
6th Dan – Black Belt (Shihan)
Technical director of K-1 or Seidokaikan organization.
Represents unprecedented development of tournament karate.
