This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.

Gyokko-ryu Kosshijutsu (Jeweled Tiger School), the oldest of the 9 koryu traditions in Bujinkan, specializes in muscle-striking and nerve-center attacks using fingertips and knuckles. Its 5-license structure (Shoden to Menkyo Kaiden) evaluates Kamae stances, Shitoken thumb strikes, Sanshin circular motion, and weapons.

Shoden Densho (Basic Kosshijutsu)

Typical gap since previous grade: 12 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Basic Kamae stances, Sanshitoken finger strikes, and attacks to muscles/tendons.

Symbolism & Meaning

12th-century koryu school (Bujinkan) specializing in Kosshijutsu (muscle/nerve attacks).

Chuden Densho (Middle Transmission)

Typical gap since previous grade: 24 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Hidden Jutaijutsu finger/wrist locks, circular Koku movement, & sword evasion.

Symbolism & Meaning

Blending circular movement and immobilizing opponent without brute force.

Okuden Densho (Deep Secret Scroll)

Typical gap since previous grade: 36 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Unarmed sword defense Muto Dori, Tanto dagger, and Bojutsu staff drills.

Symbolism & Meaning

Pinnacle Ninjutsu art of disarming an armed samurai with empty hands.

Menkyo (Teaching License / Shihan)

Typical gap since previous grade: 48 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Complete mastery of Gyokko-ryu Densho scroll and dōjō leadership authority.

Symbolism & Meaning

Shihan = Certified instructor of Masaaki Hatsumi and Shoto Tanemura lineage.

Menkyo Kaiden (Full Transmission)

免許皆伝Rank #5

Typical gap since previous grade: 72 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Highest koryu scroll. Living Soke and absolute global guarantor of Gyokko-ryu.

Symbolism & Meaning

Menkyo Kaiden = Supreme living Soke and representative of Gyokko-ryu Kosshijutsu.
