General overview of grades
This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.
In traditional Muay Thai and Muay Boran, armbands (Prajead) and headbands (Mongkhon) are used instead of waist belts. The WMC and IFMA organizations codified 15 Khan ranks (1st to 9th Khan for students, 10th to 15th Khan for Khru instructors and Ajarn grandmasters). Ranks evaluate competence in the 8 limbs of combat.
