This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.

Nanquan (Southern Fist) is an official competitive and traditional Wushu discipline unifying Southern Chinese family styles (Hung Gar, Choy Li Fut, Mok Gar). The Duanwei rank system (1st to 6th Duan) evaluates low stable horse stances (Mabu), power vocalizations (Sheng Fa), short power strikes, and Southern forms.

1st Duan – Green Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 6 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Basic stable Mabu stance, low center of gravity, and explosive Nanquan punches.

Symbolism & Meaning

Southern Chinese wushu style combining energy of Hung Gar, Choy Li Fut, & Cailifo.

2nd Duan – Blue Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 12 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Nanquan 32 forms set, Fa Sheng vocal energy release, and rapid palm combos.

Symbolism & Meaning

Utilizing vocal release for maximum muscle force mobilization at impact.

3rd Duan – Silver Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 18 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Advanced Wubuquan set, Southern staff Nangun, and Nandao broadsword drills.

Symbolism & Meaning

Integrating unarmed Southern forms with traditional heavy weapons.

4th Duan – Black Level

Typical gap since previous grade: 24 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Nanquan Cailifo set, uncompromising joint locks, and full-contact Sanda.

Symbolism & Meaning

High level of tactical mastery in Southern Chinese competition rules.

5th Duan – Gold Level (Sifu)

Typical gap since previous grade: 36 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Awarding Sifu title. Running Kwoon and transmitting full Southern Chinese lineage.

Symbolism & Meaning

Sifu = Certified instructor of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).

6th Duan – Gold Dragon (Grandmaster)

Typical gap since previous grade: 60 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Highest achievable rank. Living legend and supreme Nanquan grandmaster.

Symbolism & Meaning

Grandmaster = Direct guardian of traditional Southern Chinese wushu heritage.
