Mikonosuke Kawaishi introduced a revolutionary Judo teaching method to France and Europe in the 1930s. He created the colored student belt system (white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown) and numbered technique classification for Nage-waza and Katame-waza to streamline Western instruction prior to Dan master ranks.
