General overview of grades

This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.

Hakko-ryu Jujutsu, founded by Ryuho Okuyama in 1941 (derived from Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu), uses a master system from 1st Dan through licensed Shihan, Kaiden Shihan, and Menkyo Kaiden titles. Ranks evaluate meridian and pressure point locking (Koho Shiatsu) to neutralize attackers without permanent injury.

1st Dan – Shodan (Black Belt)

Basic master level. Self-defense techniques off-balancing without muscle power.

Eighth Light = Spectrum of purple color. Founded by Ryuho Okuyama in 1941.
