This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.

The Sikh martial art Gatka from Punjab utilizes a level system from Sikhya student to Jathedar master. The hierarchy evaluates circular Pentra footwork patterns, wooden Soti stick & shield combat, curved Talwar sword, Dhal dagger, and Chakram steel throwing ring.

1st Level – Sikhya (Student)

Requirements & Focus

Basic Panthra footwork, Soti wooden sticks, and Fari shield drills.

Symbolism & Meaning

Entry to traditional Sikh martial art of the sword from Punjab.

2nd Level – Singh / Kaur

Typical gap since previous grade: 12 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Transition to steel weapons. Talwar sword and Chakram throwing ring.

Symbolism & Meaning

Singh = Lion. Kaur = Princess. Defender of the Khalsa.

3rd Level – Nihang

Typical gap since previous grade: 24 monthsestimate

Requirements & Focus

Dual swords, spear, two-handed weapons, and Khel demonstrative fights.

Symbolism & Meaning

Nihang = Warriors wearing blue clothes with steel quoits in turbans.

4th Level – Ustad (Master)

Requirements & Focus

Teaching, understanding combat strategy (Yuddha), and Shastra Vidiya philosophy.

Symbolism & Meaning

Ustad = Master authorized to teach Sikh sword arts to the next generation.

5th Level – Jathedar (Grandmaster)
