General overview of grades
This ladder is not yet attributed to a specific organisation. Federations differ in belt colours and time requirements.
The IBJJF international federation governs strict belt rank rules in BJJ: Faixa Branca (white), Azul (blue), Roxa (purple), Marrom (brown), Preta (black 1st–6th degree), Coral (red-black 7th & red-white 8th degree), and Vermelha (red 9th & 10th degree). Black rank sleeves hold stripes (Grau) marking years of training and gi grappling mastery.
